Types of Treatments: ACQ,
CCA, ACZA & PENTA ACQ – (Ammonia
Copper Quaternary) is proven & effective
wood preservative. It is safe, cost effective & acts
as a biocide to keep bugs & fungi from attacking the
wood. The color is light tan to olive.
CCA – (Chromated Copper Arsenate) CCA is a chemical
preservative that protects wood from rotting due to insects & microbial
agents. In the past few years, this treatment has received
media attention due to the common use of the CCA. CCA contains
Arsenate a natural occurring form of arsenic. Arsenic is
a known carcinogen but the results of the carcinogenic
effects of arsenate are inconclusive. CCA has been banned
for certain applications to ensure public safety. The color
is light tan to olive.
ACZA – (Ammoniacal Copper Zinc Arsenate) ACZA
is a water bourne wood preservative that protects against
marine borers, insect attack & decay. ACZA is an arsenical,
ammoniacal wood preservative that ends to achieve better
penetration in difficult to treat (refactory) woods like
Douglas fir. The color is brown to black.
PENTA – (Pentachlorophenol) PENTA is an oil type
preservative that doesn’t generally leach into the
soil & is most often used for treating utility poles & cross
arms. The color is similar to log homes. |
